In this pandemic constriction, AYDA has organized a conversation with some speakers with the theme of human-centered design. What created a life inside the space? There must be a formula that can improve your design and achieve its purpose. Not just to design an aesthetic space, but also empathic spaces or spaces with soul and heart are we aim to by the end of the day.

From the conversation, creating a life for space is to understand and making a solution for the problem or issue that people having. We have thought of what the purpose or information of the space is that you want to bring to the people. From the staircase experience that Mr. Lai mentions, design can be effective for the people and the environment. ‘Put oneself in someone shoes and empathy’, the speakers keep mention in the conversation. Therefore, the way to the empathy of the people can be discovered and define the problem, ask yourself with questions. Hence, the design and purpose that we focus on can ensure the usage and the safety of the staircase.

Other than that, close your eye and bring yourself to space and observe it. What is the purpose of if the people visit your space and show the emotion of no feeling of space? So, this is what is the storytelling that we going to create for space and make it to have a soul and emotion. In this way, begin a story in living and offer a positive experience and value such as well-being, love, calmness. Meanwhile, try to avoid and remove the negative value of noisy, claustrophobic, intimidating, etc. Due to this, what is the long-term emotion to create for a space to connect the relationship between the user and space?

In conclusion, empathy design is to understand what the other person needs to design and communicate with the end-user. Apart from that, is always about serving humanity and the environment in the betterment of the living condition or the space that we function in has a better condition for everyone. Thus, the main essence of an empathy design would be beginning everything from heart and the purpose to create to impact the people and environment.
